Assignment 7:
For this assignment I was tasked with drawing a character from a specific book that I was asked to read, the character was a random choice as the book I had chosen was a popular choice; the book that I had chosen to read was The Sea of Ghosts: The Gravedigger Chronicles by Alan Campbell.
The character that I was given to draw, was Creedy, but Creedy in Brine; in The Sea of Ghosts brine is a toxic substance that mutates anything that comes into contact with it, and further into the book Creedy gets dumped into a vat of brine which then in turn mutates him into a mutant fish-man. Creedy himself is a very rough, brutish character that has little care for anyone but himself, almost a common thug in the way he spoke and acted.
Creedy was already an easy character to design as his character described how he would present himself very well, I also had a lot of fun designing him as I started looking into real life fish that looked freakish and ugly, as they are the kind of fish I think that Creedy would have started to resemble after excessive exposure to the brine.
This is my initial design of Creedy which I did just to get a basic idea of his human head shape and how his features were set out, in the book Creedy by this point had something of a clockwork eye in place of his right one as it was blown out earlier in the book, I left this part of him out until later as the facial design was the main part of Creedy at this point
These are the variety of designs for Creedy's mutated face, the designs were closely designed off of real fish that reside in the deep oceans, as these kinds of fish always look more terrifying than the majority of regular fish. One thing that I didn't want to do was to design a shark man, as this idea has been done many times and I think that designing him off of more unknown fish will make the designs stand out far more than that of a typical shark man design.
There are also some designs for the clockwork eye that I mentioned earlier, as the design was still crucial to making the whole design feel like it was related to Creedy I went through some basic designs of "eye patch" style clockwork eyes, which would also look fairly cheap and robotic.

This is the final full body design for Creedy, the clothing design I had taken from the actual description of various parts of clothing from the book as well as taken influence from other sources, for example in Fable 2 the video game there are enemies that are Prison Guards that have long black coats with large boots; this design immediately leapt to mind when I read the description of what Creedy was wearing.
I am overall very pleased with the design of Creedy that I have created as I think it shows a fairly good interpretation of how he would look once dunked in brine
